CSIDM-200805: Co-training NLP Systems and Language Learners

Principal Investigators:

This project aims to improve performance of both language learners and automated natural language processing systems by pairing them with each other in an interactive manner. The project will study the co-training and human computing paradigm under two scenarios: (1) Chinese language learning via interactive tests; and (2) Chinese language learning via translation assistance.

Software

Dr Kan Min-Yen's Language Learning in iPhone, Facebook & Firefox Extension (LiFE project) has developed a Firefox extension, the DiCE translator, to help English and Chinese language learners look up the most likely meaning of words and characters in context, right in the Firefox web browser. It has already been downloaded and used by hundreds of people worldwide since its inception in 2009.
